Vena Luthey, VYMA Outreach Kinder Music Teaching Artist
Vena Luthey attended El Conservatorio Nacional de Música in Panamá, has a BA in voice, an MA in Bilingual Education, a California teaching credential (K-8), an adult teaching credential, a Bilingual Certificate of Competency, and Kodály training. For 40+ years she taught for the Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) as a teacher of Children’s Centers music, ESL, 1st grade, Kindergarten and Pre-K–6 music, and as a coordinator for Title VII and Title I Language Through Music programs. She is a Co-founder/Co-author/Publisher with Language Through Music. Vena has served as a teacher trainer and presenter for local, state and national conferences and for 17 years, sang with the William Hall Chorale. Currently, she is a music coach/consultant for PUSD, a Kinder Music teacher for VYMA, in her 14th year as the director of the Carol Choir at Pasadena Presbyterian Church (PPC), a church pianist/soloist for the Hogar Cristiano Congregation at PPC, and a member of the PPC Kirk Choir. She is on the Board of Directors for the Los Angeles Children’s Chorus. Vena is a past Bravo Award nominee, and in 2005, was honored with the Rotary Club’s “Teacher of Excellence Award”.
