Our History On April 21, 2001 the String Orchestra played its inaugural performance at the Glendale Central Library. They went on to perform at the Glendale First Congregational Church, the Linda Vista Music Fair and at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in the L.A. Philharmonic Symphonies for Youth event.
Although the 30 players ranged in age from 7 to 15 and started out with varied levels of experience, they had developed- in the four months since their first rehearsal-into a proud and accomplished ensemble. Building on this initial success, VYMA has added more tiers to the Orchestra and the Chamber Music Program. It is our intention to continue to develop innovative approaches to music education.

Our Philosophy VYMA is dedicated to helping young musicians feel successful through learning and sharing music. By becoming an essential and valued member of our musical community and working together toward a shared goal, members learn the consistency, dedication and teamwork needed to create wonderful music. By deeply respecting and believing in the potential in all young musicians and by being a supportive and nurturing presence in their lives, we encourage and challenge our students to be the very best they are able while providing a safe place to take risks and make mistakes.
